Viteadovest, rooted in a family tradition dating back to 1873, is a small artisanal estate near Marsala in western Sicily, between Mazara del Vallo and Petrosino. Led by trained oenologist Vincenzo Angileri alongside his father Giuseppe and son Giuseppe Junior, the winery represents three generations working the same land just above sea level.
After years of selling grapes to cooperatives, the family returned full-time in 2010 to revive their historic vineyards and craft distinctive natural wines that honour Sicily's indigenous varieties and volcanic-influenced terroir. Their seven hectares of century-old vines, planted on clay and limestone soils, yield around 24,000 bottles annually of Grillo, Catarratto, Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese.
The Angileri family's approach is guided by minimal intervention and deep respect for the vineyard. All vines are dry-farmed using the traditional alberello (bush vine) training system, hand-harvested, and organically cultivated without irrigation or chemicals.
In the cellar, grapes ferment spontaneously in stainless steel or fibreglass tanks with wild yeasts, often with extended skin contact (up to 30 days for their textured orange wines). Wines are aged on lees for seven to eighteen months, followed by time in bottle. Nothing is fined or filtered, and sulfites are kept to an absolute minimum, allowing the wines to express the character of their coastal Sicilian home with purity and authenticity.
Once available only to locals, these artisanal wines now showcase western Sicily's winemaking heritage to an international audience. The estate remains proudly small-scale and family-run, with Vincenzo's oenological expertise ensuring each vintage reflects both the land and the philosophy passed down through generations.
