Wines by Marco Parusso
Varietals include: Nebbiolo, Barolo Cru ‘Bussia’ and ‘Mariondino’, Sauvignon
Situated at Cascina Rovella, in the Bussia area, on the ridge of the hill that from Monforte d'Alba descends towards Castiglione Falletto and overlooks the town of Barolo.
Armando Parusso made the first vintage in 1971 using classic method of ‘botte grande’ until his son Marco (2nd generation) made the change to organic farming and use of new French Barriques in the early nineties.
Marco was also eager for continuous change and experimentations to get the most out of his Nebbiolo. He makes wines that are one with nature changing the conventional ways to organic farming. He waits for full maturation and uses ventilated ripening post hand picking, use of natural indigenous yeasts for whole bunch fermentation and extended time on lees in a natural autolysis process so at bottling he only needs very minimal sulfur due to the time on lees.
Located in the heart of the Barolo district where the two types of soils, Tortonian and Elvezian, have formed hills which mingle and blend together in a perfect union. Limestone, clay, marl and sand expertly blended by nature, give us a rich soil characterized by an incredible diversity.
Parusso have 3 Barolo crus: Bussia, Mosconi and Mariondino. A vineyard with the best exposure and location is named “grande vigna” is the correspondent name of cru in France. Even though the vinification process for the Barolos is the same, these wines show their particular characters because the grapes come from vineyards in different areas of the Barolo district.
The wines are complete expressions of our terroir realized in cellar through a vinification process based on two fundamental considerations: the full maturation of grapes and the aging of the wines in contact with their natural yeasts. This last stage is essential to enrich the wine with substances and essences in a natural autolysis process.
Marco Parusso has "Just one objective: to make wine that is fine and elegant with fruit and soft tannins."
Most of Marco’s family is involved, he runs the winery with his sister Tiziana and most likely the next generation his niece Giulia.
